Let me come right out and say it, I am not a huge fan of “cardio”, matter of fact I hate a majority of the “cardio” people are doing in your big box gyms out there. Why?
Well, in short walking on an elliptical or treadmill for 60 minutes is boring, time consuming, and often times counterproductive to your fitness goals. Have you ever watched a person at the gym walk on the treadmill for 60 minutes, looks similar to the hamster you had as a pet growing up…..and the hamster wasn’t lean either.
So, what is a better alternative you ask? Sprints my friends, yes that’s right just good old fashion ass kicking sprints. I consider sprints the ultimate exercise, not only for increasing overall athleticism but for one of the most effective fat burning workouts around. No real secret to it, the best sprinting protocol is to give a 100% all out effort for your intervals.
Here is a little simple science behind why sprints are the real deal. Sprints have been shown to raise Growth Hormone Levels in the body, which helps build lean muscle in turn keeping your body fat lower. Sprinting can also increase mitochondria, which is the section of the cell which stores energy. This makes your body more efficient at releasing the energy it needs to work, in turn making you less likely to store body fat. Simple-Stupid….. sprinting helps your body from storing new fat, not a bad benefit.
Here are some super simple spiriting routines:
Set a timer for 20 Minutes, take a distance you are comfortable with 40-100 yards and sprint that set distance with 100% effort – walk back to your starting point and repeat for 20 total minutes…..pretty simple right? Give it a try for a quick killer fat loss workout.
Option 2 set a specific number # let’s say 10-25 sprints sprint all out for 10 seconds….yes just 10 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds and repeat for 10-15-20-25 reps!
It doesn’t have to be super complicated and it might not look sexy on paper, but the reality is that simple spiriting works and it works well. So, get off the hamster wheel and start training with a purpose, a purpose to lose fat as quickly and efficiently as possible!
