Beast of the Month Tom Blake – Jeremy Scott Fitness
What brought you to Jeremy Scott Fitness and how long have you been a member?
My wife, Dedee (in the picture with me) joined first and brought me along one Saturday in the spring of 2017. She has to live with how grumpy I get when I am not exercising, and the previous couple years were really tough on all areas of our lives. She convinced me that the culture would be a good fit and that I’d be a happier person if I could get some fitness back.
How did you feel at the beginning when you joined?
I was in a big hole, physically and mentally. I was overweight, not at all fit, and really not very positive that I could turn it around. Even when I started, I didn’t really commit to the program because I thought I was past getting it all back together.
How do you feel now?
I still don’t have it all together, but I sure feel happier in my own skin and in my head. I really look forward to seeing the other crazies at the 5am JSF sessions. Seeing the same early risers, knowing they’ll be there, keeps me coming back. I’m more excited about how nutrition and exercise are changing my mind and body.
What have you accomplished since working with Jeremy Scott Fitness?
More than the accomplishments other people can see, it’s the mental changes that I am proud of. I make better health decisions, and finally feel like I have a sustainable framework that works in real life – no gimmicks. OK, I’m also happier about the way I look.
In one word how would you describe Jeremy Scott Fitness?
Accountability. JSF has succeeded in building a culture that makes you want to come back. The workout structure lets you give what you can, when you can, and the staff provides just the right level of motivation and support. It works for me, and I think it would work for a lot of people who would walk through the JSF door, especially people who are uncomfortable with typical big box gyms.
What advice do you have for others?
Wake up, dress up, show up…and keep showing up. There will always be someone there who is fitter and faster, so don’t worry about it, just keep chipping away.
Also, sign up for a 47-Day Transformation. Sell yourself out, throw away all the crap in your pantry and fridge, learn and pay attention to your macros, and try a bunch of different foods so you can still enjoy eating. The coaches and your teammates will make the effort worth it, and you’ll learn a ton.
What is your favorite quote?
“Be nice to everyone, because everyone is fighting some personal battle that you can’t see.”
CONGRATULATIONS TOM!!!
We are just blown away by how far you have come since starting at JSF! Your commitment to both training and more importantly nutrition has been amazing and we are so excited for your future! Keep up the awesome work!
