Who doesn’t love chocolate or at least like it right?
Personally I could crush about 10 Reese’s Easter Eggs without even breathing in between but as we know that is probably not the healthiest thing to do lol….
But did you know dark chocolate can be a healthy alternative in moderation to help you curb your sweet tooth and offer you a wide array of health benefits.
I recently dug deep in the world of dark chocolate on our podcast CLICK HERE to give the fill episode a listen.
The quick breakdown of Dark Chocolate: Did you know Dark Chocolate is….
Rich in: Iron, Copper, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Flavanols, and Zinc which is great for your immune system.
When picking a dark chocolate Choose 70% dark chocolate or higher to obtain the most flavanols. Though keep in mind that the higher the percentage of cocoa solids, the greater the bitter flavor.
Also the higher percentage of cocoa solids, the higher the caffeine content. Two ounces of 70% dark chocolate contains about 50-60 mg caffeine. In comparison, an 8-ounce cup of coffee contains 100-200 milligrams of caffeine.
The health benefits of dark chocolate are amazing, and there are more being discovered all the time.
You should be looking for cacao content up and above the 70% range…. personally I think 85% is the sweet spot.
Again Snickers, Kit-Kat, Butterfinger are NOT what we are talking about here.
Make sure your dark chocolate consumption 70% or darker fit into your macro intake and always enjoy in moderation.
Until next time eat well, train hard & be nice to people.
