Can you believe it? We’re already on the other side of Thanksgiving, and 2025 is right around the corner. We’ve got less than five weeks until the New Year, and I want to talk about what that means for your health and happiness. Let’s face it: we’re at a crossroads. There are really only two paths we can take from here. Path No. 1: We come up with a reasonable, realistic plan for exercise and nutrition to carry us through these next five weeks. The goal? Simply not losing ground before January 1st rolls around. Did you know most people gain 5-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s? Just avoiding that would be a win in my book. Path No. 2: We throw our hands up, wave the white flag and surrender to the “holiday weight gain is inevitable” mindset. We indulge at every party, skip all our workouts, and wake up on New Year’s Day facing a mountain of work to undo the damage. Now, you might be thinking Path No. 1 sounds like the tougher option. After all, it takes work, planning and willpower to stay on track during the holidays, right? But Path No. 1 is actually the easier approach. Think about it. Instead of your usual 3-4 workouts a week, all you need to commit to is two per week for the next five weeks. And we’re not talking about long, grueling sessions that leave you gasping for air. Just good, solid, consistent work. As for nutrition, we’re not aiming for perfection here. During other times of the year when you’re really focused on losing weight, you might aim to eat right 80% of the time. For these five weeks, we can lower that bar to about 70%. This means you can still enjoy some holiday treats without derailing your progress. See how the better choice isn’t always the most difficult one? So, which path are you going to choose? Are you going to put in a little effort now to make January easier, or are you going to make January harder by giving up now? Remember, it’s not about being perfect.
