Redefining “Normal” Aging Let’s talk about what “normal” aging really means. Think of your body as a construction site. You’re constantly rebuilding, but the materials you use and the care you take determine the strength of the structure. Quality in, quality out. If you fuel your body with strength training, high-quality protein and whole foods (including lots of fruits and vegetables), it will thrive. Treating it like a couch potato will only result in soft muscles, a medicine cabinet full of pills and a body that feels older than its years. You have the power to change this narrative. By incorporating strength training, varied physical activities like walking, biking, or swimming, and nourishing your body with wholesome foods, you’re using premium materials. You’re building a body that’s resilient, strong and capable. Imagine being in your 60s, 70s, or even 80s, and having the freedom to do what you want, when you want, without your body holding you back. It’s not just a dream – it’s a reality for those who make the right choices today. The alternative? Spending the latter part of your life managing pain and having a calendar packed with doctor’s visits. That’s often considered “normal” aging … but I reject that definition, and you should, too. Now, I’m not trying to scare you. I’m simply highlighting the truth: The choices you make today are writing the script for your future. Every workout you do, every nutritious meal you eat, every step you take – they’re all contributing to the role you’ll play in your life’s story years from now. Don’t believe me? A study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that older adults who engaged in regular physical activity had a significantly lower risk of disability compared to their sedentary counterparts. Another study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that strength training in older adults improved physical function and reduced the risk of falls and fractures. Remember, “normal” aging doesn’t have to mean decline. It can mean growth, strength and vitality – if that’s what you choose. So, what choice will you make today?
