-An Apple A Day-
–Jeremy Scott – Jeremy Scott Fitness-
A lot of times we get caught up in the hype of all these fancy fruits and berries because we want to be cutting edge, acai this or goji that…what about good old fashion apples?
You know those red things we would all eat when we were kids? If you don’t remember how awesome they were let me remind you why Apples are still one of my favorite fruits –
Consuming an apple before you workout can boost your exercise endurance. Apples deliver an antioxidant called quercetin, which aids endurance by making oxygen more available to the lungs.
Simple Math – rocking 4 grams of soluble fiber per medium apple for a small amount of calories just 95 – makes this snack too good to pass up.
The pectin in apples lowers bad cholesterol aka LDL. People who consume 1-2 apples per day in conjunction with proper exercise may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent some studies have shown.
Research has also shown a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and it can possibly increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, is also known to strengthen bones.
Numerous health problems are tied with being overweight plain and simple, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. To manage your weight and improve your overall health, some medical professionals recommend a diet rich in fiber, this is where your friend the apple comes into play.
Now I know there are tons of anti-apple and ant-fruit people who will read this and say I am an idiot and fruit/ fructose is the devil and that you should never eat the high carb fruits –like apples- but to each their own. There is a time and place for apples in almost every nutrition regimen.
I am a fan of fruits and especially apples – Carmel Apples are my personal favorite, but please save those for your cheat meals!!!!
So, go out and grab yourself an apple today TRUST ME!!!!!
