Coaching Kids
Coaching kids can be an absolute blast!! It also can be super challenging!
They need to have fun, but also need to be safe!
The best way I have found with balancing these two is by starting with the
rules. State the rules making sure everyone knows them and explain quickly
why they are important and then finish with “If you all follow the rules
we are all going to have a lot of fun today”
There are times you need to take control and let them know certain
behaviors won’t fly, but you have to do it in such a way that they don’t
feel attacked.
When coming up with activities for kids always choose something they need
and then make a game out of it!
One of my kid’s favorite is Fox and Hound… We put T- shirts as tails on
the foxes and the hounds will then chase them trying to catch the tail.
Here the kids don’t even know they are working on cutting, hand – eye-
coordination, and learning how to move their bodies.
Again, always emphasis FUN when working with children no matter what
sport. If they don’t enjoy it they won’t want to play it!
Until next time …do something active and keep being awesome!
