It Didn’t Happen Overnight | The Work Nobody Sees Jeremy Scott Fitness Podcast

The Work Nobody Sees

Everyone loves the idea of chasing their dreams.

Building a business.
Creating freedom.
Doing work that actually matters.

What people rarely talk about is what those dreams cost.

Because dreams do not usually collapse when you fail.
They collapse when the work gets boring, repetitive, and lonely.
When nobody is clapping anymore.

This is the part of success that never trends.
And it is the part that actually decides who lasts.

The Truth About Hustle Culture Nobody Wants to Admit

Before we go any further, I want to say something that might sound strange coming from me.

I think hustle culture and running your own business are massively over sold.
And being honest about the lifestyle you actually want to live is under sold.

Here is the truth most people do not want to hear.

A lot of people would be happier with
A solid salary
Predictable hours
Real time off
Less mental load

Than owning a successful business.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But hustle culture keeps telling people that if you are not building something, scaling something, or betting on yourself, you are falling behind.

And honestly, people like me do not help.
We get rewarded for telling people to quit their jobs and chase the dream.

What rarely gets talked about is the cost of that dream.

What It Didn’t Happen Overnight Actually Looks Like

Let me take you behind the curtain.

In 2017, my wife Heather was scraping and mopping a concrete floor.

No hype.
No celebration.
Just work.

That floor was being prepped for turf because we had just bought a piece of commercial real estate to build what you now know as Jeremy Scott Fitness.

But that moment did not magically appear.

Before that, we ran training for seven years out of a warehouse in Arizona with no air conditioning.
Before that, we sub leased tiny spaces inside other gyms.
Before that, we trained people in parks.

People casually say, it will not happen overnight.
What they really mean is, I hope this does not take that long.

The Reps Nobody Sees

I got my first training certification in 2005.

That is more than twenty years in the game.

During that time, the reps stacked up quietly.

Three thousand five hundred newsletters written
Six thousand four hundred Instagram posts
Seven thousand Facebook posts
Two thousand three hundred YouTube videos
Fifteen thousand group training sessions coached
Ten thousand personal training sessions delivered
Six hundred seventy eight podcast episodes recorded

That is not talent.

That is repetition.

Success is not built in big moments.
It is built in thousands of unsexy repetitions stacked on top of each other.

Just like training.

You do not get strong from one workout.
You do not get lean from one meal.
You do not build a body or a business without consistency after motivation disappears.

The Boring Reality of Running a Business

Here is another truth that does not get enough airtime.

Running your own business is boring far more often than it is exciting.

You spend most of your time doing things you do not enjoy.
Hard problems.
Stressful decisions.
Weekends.
Holidays.
Christmas.
Late nights.
Mental load that never shuts off.

And if things go well, the problems do not disappear.
They grow.

You do not escape bosses.
You multiply them.

Clients.
Customers.
Employees.
Partners.

For many years, I was not just the owner.

I was the coach.
The trainer.
The handyman.
The accountant.
The video editor.
The social media manager.
And the janitor.

There was no team.
No guarantees.
Just belief and a decision to keep showing up.

The Cost Nobody Puts on the Highlight Reel

I sacrificed nice cars.
Passed on bigger, flashier houses.

Not because I did not want them.
But because I wanted to reinvest into myself and the business so I could serve people better.

I worked more hours.
Carried more stress.
And for a long time, made less money than I thought I should.

You pay yourself last.
You see your kids less.
You struggle to ever fully switch off.

Nearly ninety percent of business owners struggle with mental health challenges.

That is not a coincidence.
That is part of the deal.

The Question Nobody Asks Before Chasing the Dream

Here is the real question.

Does this lifestyle actually match the life you want to live?

Because more money usually means more complexity.
More growth means more pressure.
More success means more people relying on you.

There is nothing wrong with that.
If that is the life you want.

People ask me why I do this if it is so hard.

The answer is simple.

This lifestyle fits me.

I love building things.
I love creating.
I love moving at my own pace, not someone else’s timeline or rules.

This life works with my personality.
My obsessive tendencies.
My competitive nature.
My ability to lock in and work until something is better.

For someone else, this life would feel overwhelming.
Their version of balance might feel boring to me.

And that is the point.

When you build a life that feels like home to you,
it usually looks like chaos to outsiders.

No One Builds Anything Alone

Through all of this, Heather was there.

Supporting the madness.
Believing in me before I fully believed in myself.
Holding it down while also building her own career.

No one builds anything meaningful alone.
That part gets overlooked far too often.

The Real Lesson Behind the Story

Here is the lesson, not just from my story, but from yours.

A dream does not build anything.
Motivation does not sustain anything.
Talent does not separate you.

Consistency does.

Success is simply the byproduct of doing boring work longer than everyone else is willing to.

You do not need to be special.
You do not need to be loud.
You do not need to be perfect.

You need relentless focus.
Showing up quietly, professionally, and consistently.
Even when nobody is watching.

Because the work you are doing right now, the work that feels invisible,
that is the edge.

Building something quietly
In the trenches
Questioning themselves
Wondering if it is worth it

Final Thoughts

If you are tired.
If you are questioning yourself.
If the work feels invisible.

Do not quit.

Do not romanticize the dream.
Respect it.

Wake up tomorrow.
Do the next rep.
And keep getting after it.

That is how people stop being optional
and become undeniable.

As always any questions just ask I am happy to answer.

Until next time eat well, train hard & be nice to people.
