Ep 713: Wealth & Health Playbook 2026

Investing, AI, Housing, Cash & Building Wealth Without Sacrificing Your Health

What does it actually take to build wealth in 2026?

The answer isn't as simple as picking the right investment, buying the right house, or predicting what the stock market will do next.

The financial landscape has become increasingly complicated. Artificial intelligence is changing industries and markets. Housing affordability remains a major consideration for buyers and renters. The S&P 500 continues to command attention from investors. Interest rates, inflation, cash reserves, market valuations, and long-term financial planning all play a role in the decisions people are making about their money.

And there's another question that doesn't get nearly enough attention:

What's the point of building wealth if you don't have your health to enjoy it?

That's the idea behind the latest episode of the Jeremy Scott Fitness Podcast: Wealth & Health Playbook 2026.

Jeremy sits down with Grant Lyon, CFP® and Andy Reinhardt, CFP® of Beacon Pointe for a wide-ranging conversation about investing, financial planning, the current financial climate, housing, AI, cash, and the bigger picture of building a successful life.

This isn't about predicting the future.

It's about asking better questions and making more thoughtful financial decisions.

The Financial Climate in 2026

Financial markets are constantly changing.

That's nothing new.

What is different is the speed at which information, technology, markets, and economic narratives can change.

Artificial intelligence has become one of the biggest investment themes of the decade. Companies are investing heavily in AI, investors are evaluating the potential economic impact, and questions continue to emerge about whether expectations surrounding AI have moved ahead of fundamentals.

That creates an important challenge for investors:

How do you separate long-term opportunity from short-term excitement?

Instead of trying to predict exactly what happens next, long-term financial planning requires understanding your goals, your risk tolerance, your time horizon, and the role each investment plays in your overall financial plan.

The goal isn't necessarily to have an opinion about every market headline.

The goal is to have a financial strategy that doesn't require you to react to every headline.

AI, Market Bubbles and Investing in 2026

Artificial intelligence has created enormous enthusiasm across technology, business, and financial markets.

Whenever a new technology creates this much excitement, investors naturally begin asking whether valuations have become excessive.

Are we experiencing a genuine technological transformation?

Could certain areas of the market be overvalued?

Are investors pricing in too much future growth?

These are difficult questions, and nobody has a crystal ball.

That's why having a long-term investment framework can be more useful than trying to predict the next market move.

Markets have always experienced periods of excitement, fear, bubbles, corrections, and uncertainty.

The challenge for investors is determining how much risk they can actually tolerate and building a financial plan that accounts for that reality.

What Should You Know About the S&P 500?

The S&P 500 is one of the most commonly referenced benchmarks in the U.S. stock market.

For many investors, it has become shorthand for "the stock market."

But investing isn't simply about deciding whether the S&P 500 will go up or down next year.

A more useful question is:

What role should U.S. large-cap stocks play in your overall financial plan?

Your answer may depend on your goals, time horizon, risk tolerance, existing assets, income, tax situation, and other factors.

This is one reason working with a qualified financial professional can be valuable.

Instead of making decisions based solely on whatever financial story is dominating the news that week, you can evaluate how individual decisions fit into a larger plan.

How Much Cash Should You Keep?

One of the most practical questions discussed in the episode is how much cash people should have available.

Cash provides liquidity.

It can help cover unexpected expenses, income disruptions, major purchases, emergencies, or other short-term needs.

But holding too much cash also has an opportunity cost because money sitting in cash may not have the same long-term growth potential as investments.

So what's the right amount?

There isn't one universal number that works for everyone.

Your appropriate cash reserve can depend on factors such as:

  • Household income

  • Monthly expenses

  • Job stability

  • Debt

  • Family responsibilities

  • Upcoming purchases

  • Business ownership

  • Access to other assets

  • Personal risk tolerance

The important takeaway is that cash should be intentional.

You should know why you're holding it and what job that money is supposed to perform.

Buying a House vs. Renting in 2026

Housing is another major financial decision that doesn't have a one-size-fits-all answer.

For years, buying a home has often been presented as an automatic financial win.

But the reality is more complicated.

Buying comes with costs beyond the mortgage payment, including:

  • Property taxes

  • Insurance

  • Maintenance

  • Repairs

  • Closing costs

  • Opportunity cost of the down payment

  • Potential changes in housing values

  • Transaction costs when selling

Renting has its own tradeoffs.

The right decision can depend on your financial situation, how long you expect to stay in a location, your cash reserves, your career plans, your lifestyle, and the local housing market.

Instead of asking:

"Is buying always better than renting?"

A better question may be:

"Which option makes the most sense for my financial situation and the life I want to build?"

Building Wealth Is More Than Investing

Investing is an important component of wealth building, but it's not the entire equation.

Building wealth can involve:

Increasing income.

Controlling expenses.

Managing debt.

Saving consistently.

Investing appropriately.

Avoiding unnecessary financial mistakes.

Protecting what you've already built.

Planning for the future.

The boring stuff often matters more than the exciting stuff.

You don't necessarily need to find the next huge investment opportunity.

You may simply need to build a financial system that you can consistently execute for decades.

Avoiding Costly Financial Mistakes

Financial mistakes can be expensive because the consequences often compound over time.

A decision that seems relatively small today can have a much larger impact years later.

Some of the most common financial mistakes involve:

  • Making decisions based on emotion

  • Chasing market performance

  • Taking on too much debt

  • Failing to maintain adequate cash reserves

  • Ignoring taxes

  • Failing to diversify appropriately

  • Making major purchases without considering the long-term impact

  • Not having a clear financial plan

  • Confusing income with wealth

  • Failing to protect the wealth you've already accumulated

The goal isn't to eliminate every financial risk.

That's impossible.

The goal is to understand the risks you're taking and make decisions intentionally.

Wealth Without Health Isn't the Full Picture

This may be the most important part of the entire conversation.

You can spend decades building wealth.

You can save.

You can invest.

You can build businesses.

You can accumulate assets.

You can become financially successful.

But eventually, you have to ask:

What are you building all of this for?

If you don't have the physical ability to travel, play with your kids or grandkids, participate in the activities you enjoy, or simply experience life with energy and independence, financial wealth alone doesn't tell the whole story.

That's why the concept of wealth and health is so important.

Your financial health and physical health are not completely separate parts of your life.

They both contribute to your ability to enjoy the years you've worked so hard to create.

Your Health Is an Investment Too

We often think about investing in terms of money.

But your health deserves a similar long-term perspective.

Strength training is an investment.

Eating nutritious food is an investment.

Getting enough sleep is an investment.

Maintaining cardiovascular fitness is an investment.

Taking care of your mobility is an investment.

Managing stress is an investment.

The return isn't necessarily immediate.

But the decisions you make today can influence how capable and independent you are years from now.

Just like financial investing, health and fitness are largely about consistency and compounding.

Small decisions repeated over decades can create dramatically different outcomes.

Don't Build Wealth at the Expense of Your Life

There's a trap that high-achieving people can fall into.

Work harder.

Make more money.

Invest more.

Build the business.

Accumulate more.

Then someday you'll have time to enjoy it.

The problem is that someday isn't guaranteed.

Building wealth matters.

Financial security matters.

Planning for retirement matters.

But so does having the health and energy to enjoy the life you're building along the way.

That doesn't mean ignoring your finances.

It means refusing to treat your health as something you'll deal with later.

The Wealth & Health Playbook

A good financial plan should help you build a better life — not simply a bigger bank account.

And a good fitness plan should help you live that life — not simply produce a better-looking body.

The real goal is to build both.

Financial strength + physical strength.

Financial independence + physical independence.

Long-term wealth + long-term health.

That's the bigger idea behind the Wealth & Health Playbook.

Questions Worth Asking Yourself in 2026

After listening to this episode, consider asking yourself:

Financial

  • Do I have a clear financial plan?

  • Do I know how much cash I actually need?

  • Am I investing according to a long-term strategy?

  • Am I making financial decisions based on headlines or a plan?

  • Do I understand the risks I'm taking?

  • Is my housing decision aligned with my long-term goals?

  • Am I avoiding unnecessary financial mistakes?

Health

  • Am I maintaining muscle and strength?

  • Is my cardiovascular fitness improving or declining?

  • Can I comfortably perform the physical activities I enjoy?

  • Am I prioritizing sleep and recovery?

  • Am I training for the person I want to be 10, 20, or 30 years from now?

Life

  • What am I actually building wealth for?

  • Am I enjoying my life now?

  • Will I have the health to enjoy the wealth I'm working so hard to create?

Those questions may be more important than trying to predict what the stock market will do next month.
